17th King’s Royal Rifle Corps arrived in France in March, 1916 as part of 117 Brigade, 39th Division and after the requisite period of trench instruction under the tutelage of more seasoned battalions, they took over a sector of the front line in the Festubert-La Bassée area of France. George Summers died of wounds on 1st June, 1916, after having been evacuated to a hospital in Calais. As yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded. |
